Tie a Yellow Ribbon

Tie a yellow ribbon round the old oak tree (and in this case the old topiary tree) if you still want me.... And we do want to Cara and Nik to come back to NC and join us while Nik will be in a special class here at Camp Johnson. Nik is a Marine and we are so proud and thankful for his service.   This tablescape is in honor of them.

I will fly out tomorrow and help Cara to drive back across country. Keep us in your prayers.

Easter Tablescapes 2012

I can't really blog about our fixer upper even though it is looking really good for the most part. We had the plumbing done the last couple of days and yesterday coming back from Wilmington I said I wanted to stop by and see the house. It was a
"God Thing" because when we went in the plumbing was leaking and coming through the new sheetrock ceiling. I am so thankful that God lead us to stop by. Oh the joy of home ownership. lol
I did two new tablescapes that I want to share. Even though this first one is simple (because we are actually going to use it Easter Sunday) I love the meaning of it. The cross is in the center. On one side the crown of thorns and the white burial cloth and on the other side the purple fabric and kingly crown. Jesus is the King of kings and Lord of lords. How thankful we are for what He did on the cross of us. Many blessings to you.

I saw a cute saying that said, "You silly rabbit, that's not what Easter is all about." That's true but I just had to use my little yardsale bunnies. Enjoy!

Tilework in upstairs bathroom

This is the upstairs bathtub. The tile work is in progress.

It is coming along slowly but surely!

We bought these "custom-made" cabinets at the Re-Store in Wake. The problem with custom, is that they were custom for someone elses kitchen. If I needed cabinets over the refrigerator and then a cabinet next to it, these cabinets were just the opposite. That is one thing I would do different if I had to do it again. Pro: well made, solid wood cabinets. Con: You better have a great carpenter to cut off and make cabinets where needed. Speaking of carpenters, here are mine.

Joe and Rex are GREAT carpenters if you can get them to show up and work. They are as nice as can be but love to drink, and I'm not talking about soda. They are worth more than I am paying but my money is running out quick. I guess our agreed upon price makes them feel they can show when they want to. Gotta love though!!!

House renovations continued

Downstairs bathroom.

Closet door is on and now it even has it's first coat of paint.

The kitchen has been cleaned out and a few cabinets have been moved in. Now that is exciting.

Here We Go Again

I bet you didn't think I would be back so soon but when I posted my pictures yesterday I realized how much more had been done at the house since those pictures were taken so these were taken today. The kitchen however has only been gutted and is now being used as a catch all room. Not much happening in there. The other pictures show lots of change. I hope you enjoy seeing them.

Update on Remodeling our Fixer-upper

It's been a long time since I've blogged. When we first started working on the house we did a LOT and I mean a LOT of tearing out. That seemed that was all we ever did but it went fast. At some point you have to say, no more tearing out and start rebuilding. Then came to depressing part when all the workers who were suppose to come didn't. Actually, my sister Paula got worried about me at one point. As a matter of fact I was worried about myself there for a time. lol Things got better when we finally got a new carpenter and the plumber, roofer and a/c people came.

There were three bedrooms downstairs. The two small bedrooms were side by side so we removed the wall between them and made a big master bedroom. We took a relatively small closet out to enlarge the small bathroom which is the only bathroom downstairs. I wish I would have gotten pictures of Mr. T tearing down the old brick chimney in the bathroom wall. He did a great job and I am so proud of him. He has worked so hard. We made a small walk in closet, not near as big as I wanted but I wouldn't not give up a window. It will make a really nice reading nook in the bedroom. We closed off one of the doors.

As I post these pictures I realize how much more has been done. I will take pictures tomorrow and post again soon, yeah right!!
